This course is specifically for those who have no (or very little) previous computing experience.
All you need is a desire to learn about computing. Even if you don't own a computer we can provide practice time between lessons.
If you've never used a computer before or tried and given up, found it hard to progress through an instruction book or simply lack confidence, this course is for you.
A tour of the hardware (computer, screen, keyboard, printer); getting started; using the mouse and playing simple games; opening and closing programs.
Introducing Windows; using the main icons; working with files and folders; saving work.
Using the programs that come with Windows to create documents; editing, saving and organising files; using fonts and colours; deleting unwanted work.
Introduction to using your computer for your own projects and interests; listening to music; storing photos; saving recipes; making lists, creating a CV - whatever you want!
Dealing with error messages; looking at common problems.
Specific issues raised so far; extending your computer use; getting the most from your computer.
Quite simply, all that you need to come on this course is a desire to learn about computing!
If you have your own PC, that is perfect, but if not, don't worry. We supply all the equipment, and you can always come along to one of our buddies sessions if you want to use a computer between lessons.
Please note that this course is currently aimed at Windows PC users. We regret we do not currently teach the Mac operating system.
It is not necessary to purchase or read any books to attend this course. However, we recommend the following magazine and book titles that may be of interest.
